Salsa Verde
MEXICO AS YOU LIKE IT – Salsa verde or “green sauce” is as much a staple of Mexican cuisine as its red counterpart, commonly known as salsa roja. To say that they are one and the same, however, could not be further from the truth. The tomatillos that are used to make salsa verde may look like unripe tomatoes, but in reality they are more closely related to the Cape gooseberry or physalis.
Of course, we only process the freshest tomatillos for our salsa, before adding a hint of coriander and serrano chillis. We’re not exactly sure what it is, but the tangy flavour of this exciting combination makes our salsa verde a customer favourite.
This agreeably spicy sauce makes an ideal starter, poured straight from the jar as a dip with tortilla chips, and a tasty condiment for barbecued meat. Want to try something different? Cover your fish, chicken or braised mushrooms with this salsa and let them simmer for a minute – simply delicious !
